Strategy[]

It is considered to be one of the hardest bosses in the game. Players who are under-leveled tend to find it especially difficult as the player is not able to level up in wild battles between the last save (and disk switch) and when the boss is defeated. Make sure to carry a generous amount of Mountain Apples in your quest magnus as they increase your Max HP in battle.

The Holoholobird's chief attack is it's ability to produce eggs which soon hatch into Holoholo Chicks (which are able to attack) unless the eggs are destroyed. The Holoholo Bird automatically starts with two chicks. It also has attacks which are able to knock down members of the party and severely damage them.

A good strategy during this fight is to use special attacks which hit multiple targets, so the chicks, eggs, and Holoholobird are all damaged at the same time. Defeating the chicks and eggs first allows the player to focus on attacking the Holoholobird without distraction. Also, the Holoholobird will produce an egg instead of attacking if it has no chicks or eggs.

An alternate strategy for underleveled players is to abuse the self-damaging mechanic of egg laying. Use the magnus, "Matress" to continually put the boss to sleep. Although the boss has high resistance to sleep, this gives the player an opportunity to get rid of the eggs/Holoholo Chicks without having to worry about the Holoholo bird. Be sure remove "area of effect" abilities from your deck to ensure the boss stays asleep.
